New Yarns

I've been up to a slightly different kind of photography (well, really different); taking pictures of my wife's yarn collection. She's gotten into knitting and pattern design *BIG TIME* and so I get to document her yarn purchases. Oh, don't think that this is the cheap Red Lion stuff you buy at WalMart, all of these are hand dyed and can cost quite a bit to purchase. Just Google Wollmeise and see.

  • Amigurumi. Shot this little guy last night for Barb. For more info go to her blog, tumpedduck.wordpress.com/
  • Here's my setup. A translucent storage tup, some paper from my son's Ikea easel, Scotch tape, and my old SB-26 in slave mode. I shoot with my D-70S, either a Nikon 18-70 or a Sigma 28-70 Macro. I find that mostly you can use either lens interchangeably and the macro function isn't necessary. Sometimes for the larger skeins (like the one above), I run the lens out to 60-70mm and step back to not clip the edges of the tub.
